On another note, looking at all the political blogs out there which are essentially spin and talking points (from one side or the other) it isn’t hard to believe that some people will believe whatever they see in the media.

I think the problem is that the authoratarian people out there only want us to listen to their spin!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head with regard to authoritarians as it is in their nature to want to control the thoughts and beliefs of the people.

Sure, there are some people who will believe whatever they see in the media, but I think the politcal blogs’ spin and talking points are regurgitations of what those people want to believe.

Partisanship — red or blue — could be classified as a form of brainwashing, but it seems to me to be more of a reinforcement of it, ideas and ideologies sustained by the natural human need to belong.
