Comment spam sucks! It is a time-consuming, bandwidth-wasting abomination that, very much like numerous other evils we must learn to live with because they are here to stay and any possible “solutions” that could present any hope of being effective would impose horrors far more unbearable than those they are meant to eliminate, has forced me to require people to register before commenting on posts.
Personally, I’d rather let people comment without first having to jump through software policy-based hoops, but this appears to be my only available solution until such time when some other form of verification can be implemented — perhaps one of those thingies that makes commenters prove their humanity by requiring them to enter random numbers presented in a format that is unreadable to spam bots, script kiddies, and the other various forms of unwelcome internet scum that plague cyberspace with dubious quests for that 1% of fools who make spamming a viable marketing strategy.
