From the perspective of the child with severe autism they would probably prefer never to have been born.

Most de novo autism is caused by a father who is older at the conception of a child. The other risk factors for non-familial autism is a mother whose father was older at her conception. A family history of type 1 diabetes, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and other autoimmune disorders is a strong risk factor for some degree of autism in offspring. Of course a family history of autism or schizophrenia, OCD, ADHD of the Asperger’s sort are strong risk factors. There a many, many genetic disorders including cancers, diabetes, MS, Lupus, Crohn’s, edometrios, schizophrenia which rise with advancing paternal age. Those sperm making cells rapidly accumulated mutations by 33-35. There is a male biological clock. For more information please check out these links.

I like your blog. But If you’re pro-choice, why the horror at the “specter of eugenics” ? If we humans gain knowledge that would allow people to choose what kind of kids they’ll have, I think people will use it, they won’t be stopped, and this is as it should be. I don’t think such technology would eliminate diversity—on the contrary it would probably increase it (and there will be great ethical hysteria over that too!) … In any case, neurotypical and neurodiverse will both certainly benefit from the knowledge of autism & intelligent perspective you display here. :)
