Stating The Obvious
Ethics & Morals

The slaves did not free themselves. 100% of the people who voted in favor of women’s suffrage were possessed of a Y chromosome. Most of the people who are in favor of gay rights are straight. One needn’t actually be a member of any particular minority in order to advocate for that minority because advocating for civil and human rights is our duty as citizens of this free nation, which must continuously test its appetite for liberty if it is to remain a great nation, and as members of the entire human race who must share this planet, whether we like each other or not.

In other words, it ain’t about you/us. It’s about something much bigger than you/us. This is why one cannot cater to one group while disparaging another and then subsequently dare/pretend be shocked upon being labeled as a hypocrite and a bigot by both. Ideas, however, are a totally different matter, which is why it is important to separate people from ideas.

Why?

I am confused, disturbed, and fascinated by this, all at once, and also this, and the responses to it here, and here. I stayed out of it and went somewhere else to briefly pontificate on another subject.
